Although
the workshops commence at 1.30pm, morning presentation
sessions will be dedicated to each workshop subject.
These morning sessions will provide background and lead
in to the workshop sessions, which have been designed
to be interactive with clear objectives and outcomes.

Managing
With Uncertainty

Purpose:
The
workshop will address the question of how to plan and
make decisions under uncertainty. Workshop participants
should gain a better understanding of the nature of
scientific uncertainty and some guidance on how to treat
and convey uncertain information.
Target
Audience: Technical Staff, Resource Managers
and Planners who use environmental models in decision
making and water resources management.

Formulating Tools for Developing Science-based Policy

Principal Hydrogeologist - Sinclair Knight Merz
Purpose:
A workshop-style discussion focussing on methods for
assessing groundwater/surface water hydraulic interaction.
The workshop will run in an interactive manner with
the opportunity for input from all attendees. The goal
will be to generate a consensus from attendees of where
we are currently, identifying key gaps in current knowledge
and formulate proposals for furture research. A panel
of industry experts will be gathered to inform and lead
the debate.
It
is hoped to learn from and build on previous workshops
on this topic held at previous Hydrological Society
conferences, particularly the workshop held at the Queenstown
conference in 2004.

Audience:
Resource Managers, Planners and Technical Staff involved
in surface water and groundwater.
